Job Description

The AVP of Business Development is an Executive level role responsible for 1st Global’s success in identifying, evaluation and recruiting CPA firms and financial advisors. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Client Experience, this highly-visible position is tasked with meeting and exceeding affiliation/revenue target by generating and growing business opportunities within the financial/accounting professional services industry. The AVP of Business Development will spend a large portion of his or her time managing sales funnel strategies, prospect nurturing activities and leading the closing process for large firms and top producer prospects.

The AVP of Business Development is accountable for generating business leads, building the market strategy and driving revenue growth across existing and future affiliate CPA firms and financial advisors.

The AVP of Business Development must be able to lead the team of sales consultants on the generation of leads, pipeline advancement and the closing process for qualified firms and top producer prospects. As a member of 1st Global’s Executive Team, the AVP of Business Development will frequently contribute to the success of broad company initiatives. The ideal AVP of Business Development candidate will have extensive experience in B2B sales of professional services, as well as a history of exceeding sales quotas.

Affiliate Firm and Financial Advisor Recruitment Strategy

  • Creates and executes multi-year recruitment strategy; including segmented strategies focusing on specific target areas of focus.
  • Responsible for meeting and exceeding annual affiliate firm and financial advisor recruitment goals and revenue-generation targets.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and strengthening relationships with key partners, influencers and accounting/financial services group.
  • Enrolls 1st Global executives, leaders and select subject matter experts in Business Development activities.
  • Collaborates with AVP, Marketing and Communications to create marketing strategy focusing on target areas of focus.


 Sales Team Leadership

  • Leads weekly cross-stakeholder sales meetings to manage incremental goal achievement and organizational alignment.
  • Regularly provides EVP, Client Experience Officer and 1st Global Executive Team with detailed progress reports and recruiting success metrics.
  • Responsible for training, supervising and developing the business development sales team.
  • Conducts regular 1x1 with sales team members to ensure skill development and consistent progress toward quarterly/annual sales goals.

Budget Ownership

  • Creates and manages annual (fiscal year) business development budget.
  • Responsible for creating and executing referral/incentive program that rewards affiliate firms and strategic partners for qualified introductions to 1st Global.
  • Responsible for creating compelling compensation packages for new clients that encourage and empower firm wide buy-in and wealth management success.

Partner Firm Mergers and Acquisitions

  • Lead the creation and implementation of mergers & acquisitions (M&A) program that drives growth of current affiliate firms in collaboration with AVP, Consulting.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Exceptional prospecting and relationship building skills.
  • Proven B2B sales skills and proven track record in creating professional services sales strategies.
  • Solid understanding of the CPA (accounting) and financial services industry is required.
  • Must possess strong communication and presentation skills.
  • P&L management experience.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, issue management, mediation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate and present to any audience, including C-level executives.
  • Exceptional organizational leadership skills required.
  • Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications.

 Travel in role is estimated at 40%

Minimum Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • Series 7/ 66 required, Life/health preferred.   Designations such as CFP, CPA or other preferred.

Minimum Specific Experience Required:

  • Minimum 10 years financial services experience with 5+years in direct recruiting required.
