Job Description

1st Global was founded in 1992 by CPAs who believe that accounting, tax and estate planning firms are uniquely qualified to provide comprehensive wealth management services to their clients. 1st Global is a research and consulting partner that provides CPA, tax and estate planning firms the education, technology, business-building framework and client solutions that make these firms leaders in their professions through dedicated professional client relationships built around wealth management. Around 400 firms have chosen to affiliate with 1st Global, making it one of the largest financial services partners for the tax, accounting and legal professions.

Platform and Product Development

The AVP, Wealth Platforms will be responsible for the strategy and execution required to experience quantum leap growth in 1st Global’s advisory, retirement, insurance and brokerage platforms. More than half of our firm revenue is derived from $12 billion of client assets managed on our advisory platform. Industry, advisor and regulator trends are demanding that the RIA platforms of the future be superior in quality and transparent in complexity. Ultimately the creation of a vision for these platforms – advisory, ERISA and execution of same – will be the major responsibility of the individual who occupies this position. Growth of the advisory and ERISA platforms will be measured by increase in year over year (YOY) gross contributions as well as YOY growth in number of new accounts.

Leading through others the AVP will influence advancements in platform design, technology integration, product management, training initiatives, sponsor relations and business development support.

 People Leadership

This leader will be measured by the ongoing evolution and growth of the people, programs and products associated with 1st Global, as measured by the enhanced capability of staff as well as feedback from all members of this division gathered in our ongoing employee engagement survey. Leadership development and creation and promotion of career paths within the 1st Global network are critically important. Creating and maintaining ongoing goal and individual development plans for direct reports, and ensuring all leaders are doing so, is a key leadership function of this role.

Investment Executive

This position will play a key leadership role, providing oversight, technical guidance and people leadership to 1st Global’s Investment Management Research Group (IMRG). IMRG consists of highly experienced portfolio managers and analysts who are tasked with the responsibility of due diligence, manager selection and monitoring, performance tracking and reporting of 1st Global’s advisory solutions. The AVP will serve as executive liaison between the research and platform groups and our affiliated advisors and staff. Success will be measured by performance against investment benchmarks as well as feedback solicited from our affiliated firms via surveys. Ongoing increased adoption of these programs will also be a key metric. Ideally the AVP will raise awareness of 1st Global’s intellectual rigor not only with our affiliated firms, but with the investment community at large.

The AVP will be a key leadership contributor to the 1st Global Advisory Investment Committee as well as the Retirement Management Solutions investment committee. Ensuring these committees are organized and effective, and the philosophies are clearly understood by all stakeholders, is of paramount importance to our primary business lines.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high quality results while demonstrating wise use of capital resources and effective budget projection and control
  • Collaborate and work with key business partners in technology, consulting, billing, operations, compliance, trading and marketing to ensure timely delivery of various platform priorities and projects
  • Create and lead presentations or educational sessions for financial advisors, as well as internal staff
  • Identify gaps in platform offerings by understanding competitors’ platforms, as well as areas for increases in efficiency, profitability and mitigation of risk
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of systems and operations processes for products supported
  • Resolve service delivery or product support issues identified by client service or support organizations

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in financial services, 5-7 in advisory or similar platform leadership
  • Strong leadership experience with demonstrable success in developing others
  • Product due diligence experience with advisory, brokerage, insurance and ERISA products
  • FINRA Series 7 and 66 required, Series 24 preferred
  • Designations such as CIMA®, CFA , CFP® highly preferred

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, issue management, mediation and negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to communicate and present to any audience, including C-level executives
  • Exceptional organizational leadership
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation
  • Must have the ability to work effectively independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Experience with Morningstar and/or Bloomberg systems preferred
