Job Description

The Communications Specialist is an essential member of the team responsible for ensuring the 1st Global brand, as conveyed through our written and digital content, accurately represents the goals, principles and voice of the firm. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, creating and distributing internal/external communications in support of 1st Global’s advisors, prospects and employees. This includes marketing pieces promoting the 1st Global investment/platforms, business development (prospecting) initiatives, marketing campaigns, IT platforms, presentations, thought leadership articles, training material and other opportunities as they develop. This position will also work closely with all areas of the organization to ensure that important information is delivered in a way that is relevant, consistent and timely to the audience. In addition, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating/documenting departmental processes and maintaining/updating reports on the department’s key performance indicators.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Generate high-quality, persuasive marketing pieces that adhere to brand standards and AP style guidelines. This includes ensuring consistency of style, tone and grammar throughout all writing and editorial projects.
  • Collaborate with team leaders and subject matter experts throughout the organization to develop articles, informative messages, announcements, video scripts and other communications for 1st Global audiences.
  • Manage and execute the company’s weekly communication to all affiliated advisors and employees, which includes the continual gathering of pertinent information and announcements from throughout the organization.
  • Assist in facilitating the 1st Global publishing calendar and article pipeline for the company’s numerous publications.
  • Develop, execute and manage programs and activities in support of key communications strategies and plans. This includes collateral, key message development, Web and digital communications, email campaigns, 1st Global events, advertising and internal/external communications.
  • Ensure the company’s marketing efforts are leveraging all available resources by following key industry trends and online developments. Continually assess writing projects and identify potential areas of increased effectiveness, efficiency and value-added to provide maximum ROI to the business.
  • Manage all communications material/projects through the necessary approval process.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or business.
  • Interest in obtaining FINRA Series 7 license within the first year of employment preferred.
  • 3+ years of professional communications experience, preferably in a financial-services profession or as a financial journalist.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to tell a great story by clearly and effectively articulating thoughts and ideas. Excellent ability to conceive, draft, proofread and edit written materials quickly, including demonstrated ability to understand and communicate about complex, technical or sensitive subjects in a clear, concise and engaging manner.
  • Essential to have a strong attention to detail, flexibility under pressure.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills required. Need an ability to seek out alternative solutions if presented with scope changes or obstacles.
  • Must be able to grasp and write in the voice of others and the overall organization.
  • Must be able to understand the business channels for each piece and adapt the communication accordingly.
  • Must have a positive attitude and be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to independently lead the advancement of projects to ensure all deadlines and requirements are satisfied.
  • Must be able to development trusted relationships with company executives and other members of the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Ability to present, develop and defend ideas and themes.
