Job Description

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor, track, respond, troubleshoot and resolve all SQL related platforms and issues.
  • Ensure all SQL related hardware and software are performing optimally and secured using the best practices for those systems.
  • Respond to and resolve support requests from the business or development teams.
  • Document requests in a timely manner.
  • Look for, identify and execute opportunities to reduce the support needs to the business by providing them increased ability to self-support whenever possible.
  • Manage the optimization and allocation of physical data storage for database systems. Make recommendations for and increase storage as needed to support optimal health and growth of the systems.
  • Oversee the planning and coordination of data migrations between systems.
  • Manage, recommend, create and maintain database documentation process, including advanced job scheduling and systems configuration specifications.
  • Manage the resolution and support of SQL requests from the business or development teams. Assist in support efforts as needed.
  • Provide daily, monthly and annual metrics to show the health, effectiveness and stability of the SQL systems as directed by management.
  • Mentor and train DBA and other support resources to help insure needed skills and expertise are developed and maintained at appropriate levels.
  • Where appropriate, collaborate with and support Technology Services security initiatives, adhering to security related processes and policies and supporting audit related requests for information and ad-hoc information requests submitted by the Security Manager.
  • Assist with creation and oversee the maintenance of data warehouses from which report interfaces will extract for use by internal and external customers.
  • Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.



Dimensions/Scope Data:

  • Support annual budgeting needs in relation to new and ongoing licensing needs, storage requirements and support renewal of third party products related to SQL support and maintenance.
  • Where appropriate, collaborate with and support Technology Services security initiatives, adhering to security related processes and policies and supporting audit related requests for information and ad-hoc information requests submitted by the Security Manager.



Minimum Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of computer science or equivalent experience with certifications.
  • 7+ years’ experience in a DBA role required.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as needed to perform system upgrades, maintenance and changes
  • Experience with .NET framework, XML, Windows Server Operating System 2008 and higher
  • Project Management experience.
  • Working knowledge to create and support SSIS and SSRS packages and reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws related to enterprise data security.



Licenses/Certifications Required:
• Series 99 Certification must be obtained within 3 months of hire date. An employee that does not satisfy the requirement(s) within the allotted time may be subject to disciplinary action which could lead to termination

Minimum Specific Experience Required:
• 7+ years experience in a DBA role (Microsoft SQL Server).
• 0-2 years proven experience in supervising/managing database centric teams.
• Ability to work non-standard hours as needed to perform system upgrades, maintenance and changes
• Working knowledge to create and support SSIS and SSRS packages and reports.
• Project management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong customer focus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter who can work independently.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years’ experience in a DBA role required.
  • 7+ years’ experience with .NET framework, XML, Windows Operating System.
  • 7+ years’ experience with SQL Server 2008 and above including Reporting Services and Analysis Services.
  • 5+ years knowledge of data warehouse creation, structure, maintenance and creation of reports designed to extract information from warehouses.
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • 7+ years working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers.
  • 7+ years hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience with data processing flowcharting techniques.
